Dinosaurs and Disappointment

We've had a busy week. My sister Lisa and her little boy Josh stayed here this past weekend. It was so fun to see them and see how much Josh has grown. The kids all had fun together, with a few tantrums thrown into the mix to make sure Lisa and I weren't having too much fun.

My cousin got home from his mission so there was lots of extended family to see this weekend as well. And I FINALLY got to see my favorite cousin and her adorable little girls.

Jared and I took the kids to the Telus World of Science on Saturday (formerly known as the Space and Science Centre - when did this change?). We went specifically for the dinosaur exhibit and the "Dinosaurs Alive" IMAX movie. And lemme tell ya: disappointment with a capital D. The movie was really hyped up as: "for kids" and the lady at the ticket counter claimed, "if he likes dinosaurs, he will LOVE this movie".

Riiiight.

It was a documentary. The only redeeming quality is that every 15 minutes or so, they would show an animated sketch of what they think the particular dinosaur looked like. This rare cartoon-ish image was enough to hold Carter's interest, and carry him through to the next animated sketch. But Jared and I weren't that impressed. I get more enjoyment watching the National Geographic channel at home. And for me, that's not alot of enjoyment. Jared, on the other hand...

The exhibits were really fun, though. Carter got to be a "paleontologist" and dig for fossils, sit in a dinosaur egg, and ride a police motorcycle. Here are a few pictures from the day:

Luckily, our disappointment with "Dinosaurs Alive" was ancient history (so to speak) when we watched "Click" the next day. For those of you wondering why the heck we didn't see it in 2006 when it came out - we NEVER watch movies, so we have to start somewhere, right? Anyways, I really liked that movie. It had some really funny parts and I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I cried at the end. Laugh all you want but even Jared was crying got something stuck in his eye. Ha, sorry sweetie...

Hayley got her first tooth on Thursday. Her second one is right ready to cut through, too and for the past week, she has been having a rough time. These pictures should give you an idea:

Poor girl.

This next weekend, we are headed to Lethbridge to have some fun "Jarman-style" and attend the Canada Day festivities and family dinner in Raymond. It should be a blast and we can't wait to go.

Fort Edmonton Park

Today, we went to Fort Edmonton Park with my Mom, Carly, Grandma Swanee, Aunt Kim and Whitney. Grandma, Kim and Whitney are here visiting so Kim and Mom can go to the Faith Hill/ Tim McGraw concert tonight.

Here are a few pictures from the day of old buildings, horse drawn carriages, train/trolley/carousel rides, and alot of walking.

All Hail King Donatello...

At Least I'm Entertaining...

So, Jared was having back problems again last week and went to see a chiropractor a few times, and also went to get a back massage at a fitness club. After his massage, I "casually" asked him what his massage therapist was like. He saw through my vain attempt of trying to find out if the therapist was some hot chick...danggit. Of course, he was quick to assure me that I am crazy.

Fast forward to tonight. Jared went to get the mail and opened an envelope from the fitness club massage place. He started reading it to me and this was the gist of it: "We would like to thank you for your business, blah, blah, blah, hope your first visit helped with your lower back problems, blah, blah, blah, confirming your next appointment, blah, blah, blah, sincerely your massage therapist, So-and-so McWhat's-her-bucket". And then, pretending he was still reading, Jared said, "XOXO...??".

"WHAT!" I exclaimed, whipping around with a death glare on my face that would have made Mr. T curl up in the fetal position.

No sooner had I done so, then I realized he made up that last part and was laughing hysterically. My face went red instantly. Jared was just like, "...yikes..." and we couldn't stop laughing. He even got Carter to laugh at how crazy I am.

I guess I am a little bit crazy, but if I wasn't - how much fun would that be?

Not much, I'll tell ya that.

Slurpees and Penny Candy

We've had a fun week. Last week, Jared's dad stayed here over night on his way to a tractor auction in Ponoka. Carter was so excited to see Papa and cried the next morning when he had to leave.

This past weekend, my family had a Garage Sale in Sherwood Park. They are in the process of redecorating their basement and wanted to get rid of some big stuff. I took a few baby items out there too and came away with a whopping $8.50! Yes!

My friend Krystal just got home off her mission so we were out to Sherwood Park a few more times over the weekend for her Open House and homecoming talk in church. Great to see her and alot of other friendly faces who we haven't seen in awhile.

Last night we put the kids in the wagon and went for a walk. We found ourselves at 7-11 buying slurpees, penny candy (x5) and other various convenience store treats and walked back home while eating them. Jared gave Hayley a piece of licorice to suck on and she was in heaven. By the time we got home, her face and hands were covered in sticky red slobber.

The not-so-fun part of our week happened on Sunday evening. We got home from dinner in Sherwood Park, heard a hissing noise, and realized our front tire was leaking pretty quickly. Jared put some sealant inside, but it didn't hold. So he took it in the next morning to get it fixed and ended up having to buy a new tire. I guess it's not that big of a deal, but who likes spending money on tires? I could think of a million more exciting things to spend 80 bucks on.

Words That Validate A Mother...

My parents got new carpet in their basement and gave us their old carpet, along with their old furniture. It's WAY nicer than what we have now, so of course, I was all over it like a fat kid on a Smartie (some people call it cheap; I prefer "thrifty").

Being the compulsive person that I am, I decided to move furniture, lay the carpet, and reorganize the basement all during Hayley's morning nap. In my eagerness to get it done, I somehow sliced my finger on a sharp, jagged edge. It was bleeding, so I went upstairs to get a band-aid. Carter followed me up and I noticed he was crying. I asked him what was wrong and he replied (are you ready...?):

"I'm sad cuz you have an owie. I don't want you to be hurt...cuz you're my best friend..."

I never thought I'd love hearing that so much. So what if he says the same thing to his nursery teacher, stuffed Spiderman toy, and a ladybug? It was still nice to hear.

So someday, 12 years from now, when Carter has blue hair and wants me to drop him off 5 blocks from the front doors of the junior high school...I can say, "I'm your best friend, you told me so! Ha!"

I'm gonna be the most embarrassing mom...

Jared + the sun = SUNBURN

We pretty much spent the entire weekend outdoors. The weather was so nice and Jared had his first Friday off. Friday, we went to Allan Beach (on Hubbles Lake). It's about a 1/2 hour drive from here, just past Spruce Grove. It was so hot and we took a picnic and spent a good part of the day there. Saturday, we went to the Legislature building and swam in the fountains. It was packed, but Carter and Hayley loved every minute of it. Jared refused to put on sunscreen and got burnt, as usual. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.
