The Zoo!
This past weekend we headed up to Calgary, stayed in a hotel, and went to the Zoo. We had so much fun. I think our kids are at the perfect age to do this kind of stuff; old enough that they don't need naps and strollers, but still young enough that it's fun! and exciting!
You'd think we've seen enough bears and it wouldn't excite us, but nope. We caught the bear exhibit at a really active time and it was so fun to watch them wrestling, chasing, and splashing in the water... and we didn't have to worry about having the bear spray handy this time.

And why, oh why are hippos so dang ugly? What essential survival purpose does their hideousness serve?
*On a completely unrelated side note, every time I see a Giraffe, it reminds me of a confusing conversation my sister-in-law Leah and I once had. She was saying "giraffes", I thought she was saying "drafts" (try it, they sound the same!). It ended up her having to describe to me what a giraffe was in juvenile terms. Funny.*
And what would a trip to Calgary be without visiting the Bass Pro Shop. My children were in camouflage heaven.Posted by The Whiddens at Tuesday, May 18, 2010 9 comments
They're Awake!

It's officially that time of year again. We ran into these two little grizzly cubs with their mother (on Mother's Day) on the highway through town. These are the first bears the kids and I have seen this year, but Jared sees them often on the drive to work. Along with deer, elk, moose, and bighorn sheep. It's crazy here :)

Beckham or Posh?
I mentioned earlier that both my kids were playing soccer this year. This is Hayley's first year playing and, after suffering on the sidelines last year watching us coach Carter's team, boy is she ready to play! I think she has this perma-smile on her face the whole practice:
Then she'll turn and give me the thumbs up every few minutes. She is just SO excited to be there.

Grave Lake
Grave Lake is about a 10-15 minute drive from our house. We have been there before, but this was definitely one of the best times. We took our little boat out and did some fishing. The lake is so much bigger than it looks once you get out there. I can't wait to come back in the summer, although it's a glacier lake so we won't be doing much swimming at the beach. We have yet to camp here too.
