There is a little carnival set up in the Zellers parking lot at the mall, so yesterday, we went after Jared got home from work. It was kinda ghetto and very pricey, but we still a fun time. Carter had a blast going on some rides, Hayley was intermittently crying because of the noise, and Jared and I were kept amused by the appearances of the carnival "staff". I can't understand why some one wouldn't WANT to shower. Nonetheless, a fun time was had by all.

Preparing for Game 7
Needless to say, Jared was extremely happy with the outcome of the Canucks game on Monday night. Here are a few pictures we took before the game. Poor kids...they really have no other option but to be Canucks fans, too.

Turtle Power!
So, Jared took Carter to see the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie last week and now Carter is obsessed. He insists that we only refer to him as "Donatello", and the rest of us have different names, too. Hayley is Michaelangelo, Jared is Leonardo, and I am Raphael. I don't know how accurate those names are, seeing as Donatello is the intellectual, Michaelangelo is the comedian, Leonardo is the leader, and Raphael is the muscle. Hmmm...maybe I should start working out.
In other news, we have a few big changes happening this next little while. First, we are moving at the end of the month. Not very far - 4 doors down actually. We have been on the waiting list for a bigger place and something finally came open. Hayley will finally get her own room, instead of sleeping in a playpen in our walk-in closet...no...I'm being serious... she really does.
The next thing that's happening is that Jared is starting a new job on April 30th. He is moving to a company called KBR - a big oil and gas company. He will work in the Human Resource department as a staffing coordinator. He is very excited about it and there are lots of great advantages to him moving over there. My favorite benefit of this new job is that he will get every other Friday off! Wow, I am excited about that.
When we were telling my family about all these things, my mom commented that our situation was very similar to when we moved here last year. New house, new job, and also (at that time) new baby (that's when I was expecting Hayley). After she said that, everyone was silent, as if waiting for me to say "Surprise...." and give some baby news. Ha! Sorry to disappoint...

Because Of This Day, Carter May Have Unexplainable Hostility Towards Garbage Men...
So, awhile ago, we FINALLY took away the soother from Carter (I know, I know, we waited WAY too long). He was only allowed to have it at nights for bedtime, but we still knew that we'd have to take it away before he turned 3. So, one day a couple months ago, Jared had Carter gather up all his crusty, shredded soothers and throw them in the garbage. That night, in bed, he kept calling us back to get stuff for him. We all knew that he really wanted his soother, but he didn't want to ask for it, since "big boys don't need soothers". So, he'd call us in, we'd ask what he needed and he glumly reply, "I need...some water, maybe....".
Anyways, the next day he couldn't take it anymore and asked for his soother back. We told him that he couldn't have it back, because we threw it away. He wanted to go look in the garbage bag outside, so we told him that the garbage truck had come and taken all the garbage away. So, after that, he has occasionally brought up the fact that "he'll get his soother when the garbage truck comes back someday". We just kind of laughed it off. Well, that "someday" came...
Today, we were in the back yard and the garbage truck came around the corner. It stopped to pick up the garbage, and Carter was trying to yell something to the garbage men (I couldn't hear over the truck). Then the truck started to drive away. Carter opened the gate and started running after the truck yelling, "Give me my soo-soo! I want my soo-soo back!". I had to go and get him, and the poor guy was totally bawling and so upset. He told me, "Mom, I don't want to be a big boy anymore. I want my soo-soo".
At first, I was trying to stifle laughter. But then I just felt bad for him. Poor kid, he was so sad. Hopefully that experience doesn't end up costing him huge psychiatric bills when he's older. Either that, or he'll end up detesting garbage men his whole life.

Easter Weekend
My parents are on a cruise right now (they actually get back tonight) so we spent most of the week in Sherwood Park with Joel, Dallin, and Carly - holding down the fort. We had an easter egg hunt after church and Carter was so "touched" that the Easter bunny would bring him so much candy. He goes, "I'm gonna give him a hug when he comes back later".

Update
Well, we have been in Lethbridge all week. It was kinda a rush trip. My friend got sick and was in the hospital, and her husband is away at school, so I headed down there to help watch her kids for 5 days. She has a three year girl and a two year old boy, and with Carter and Hayley, it was a challenge. I couldn't even go anywhere, because I couldn't fit them all in the car! But we had some fun amidst the craziness.
We were even able to go and visit Grandma and Grandpa Mendenhall ("Gramma and Pampa Great" as Carter calls them) in Raymond. I wish we could've visited everyone, but it was kind of difficult.
Carter is officially potty trained! Hallelujah! I have waited for this for SO LONG! He's totally got it down. And if he knows he'll be sitting for awhile, he goes "Um, I need something to read..." Anyways, it's times like this when I feel like he, all of a sudden, GROWS UP right in front of me!
