25 Confessions of a 25-Year-Old

So, for those of you not on Facebook, there is this tag going around where you have to list 25 things about yourself - random facts, goals, (quirks, as my case may be) - and then tag others. I'm not much of a Facebook-er these days, but I've been tagged and I'm still a faithful blogger, so here goes:

*I had trouble thinking of 25 things so I reused some things from previous posts where I was tagged. Some of my faithful readers (hi mom!) may be re-reading some familiar things.*

#1. I think Jared and I both grew up with families that have a great sense of humour. Very different types of humour in each family, but equally entertaining. We are related to some very witty people - keeps things interesting.

#2. I really like watching lame sitcoms. My favorites over the years have been: Full House, Family Matters, 7th Heaven, and What I Like About You. These days I am a fan of the CW channel with all it's lame shows.

#3. When I was little, my uncle died of Cystic Fibrosis. While playing, I would fill a Ziploc bag with water, attach it to the top of the broomstick, and then attach a long shoelace from the bag, and tie it around my head, just under my nose - like an oxygen machine. Then I'd pretend I had Cystic Fibrosis.

#4. I also used to empty all the songbooks out of the piano bench to make a coffin (and hold funerals) for my dolls. Dolls who were named "sensible" names, like Leopard and Co-op. I was a weird kid.

#5. Despite the weird stuff mentioned above, I had a very happy and perfect childhood. I have so many good memories of doing fun stuff together as a family, playing hard, working hard, fun vacations, getting into mischief, building forts, etc.

#6. My toes look like olives. Yep, olives. It's not something I'm proud of. How can a toe look like an olive, you may ask? Well, picture a toe, with a very bulbous end, and the nail painted red (like a pimento). And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

#7. I can't stand it when people type and use so many exclamation marks and accidentally put some 1's at the end, like this: HI!!!!!!!!11111 Clearly, if you are getting some 1's at the end, you are holding down that exclamation key for just way too long.

#8. I really didn't enjoy junior high and high school. I sometimes have dreams where I am back in high school and wake up all panicky. I think if I had learned earlier to just live my life and not care what people thought of me, I would have had a better experience.

#9. Being a mom is something I have always wanted to do. When we lived in Utah, our primary had a parade where we all had to dress up as something we wanted to be when we grew up. I just pushed a stroller full of baby dolls, pretending to be a mom. A couple years ago I told this to Jared and he said, "Not alot of people, at age 23, can say they are actually doing what they've always dreamed of". It's true, I am so lucky.

#10. About a year and a half ago, we were swimming at a pool in Sherwood Park, and I was in the deeper end holding Hayley. The pool was crowded and this big tube kept bumping into me. I kept ignoring/pushing it away, but it kept bumping into me. I finally turned around and down inside of what looked like an empty tube, was a tiny little hand grasping for the handle. I reached in and pulled out a little blue-in-the-face, sputtering, 2 or 3 year old boy who was trying to catch his breath. Who knows how long he had been struggling underneath the water. Jared helped get him to the lifeguards, who traced down his parents. In the hot tub. The saddest part was the lifeguards told his parents how we found him and they didn't even bat an eye or seem to care! So sad. I sometimes think of this little guy and am reminded how precious life is.

#11. I like to memorize random sports stats/trivia so I can casually bring it up later in a conversation with Jared. Freaks him right out. It's hilarious.

#12. I cry all the time. I cry when I'm happy, sad, mad, proud, physically hurt (even if it's just a stubbed toe). When I watch one of my siblings star in a play. When I have to drag my misbehaving child out of a store. When I'm stressed. When my kids do something grown-up. When I see someone else crying (You get the idea). It's a bit ridiculous at times - I wish I could change that about myself.

#13. One of my pet peeves is when bicyclists stop and wait in the vehicle left-hand turning lane when they want to turn left. You are not, nor will ever be, as fast as a car.

#14. I played barbies openly until grade 7. Privately until grade 10. I know, it's embarrassing. My excuse is that my sister is 9 1/2 years younger than me and I was just taking my older-sister duties very seriously.

#15. I was never really one for surprises. Growing up, I would sneak a few Christmas presents from under the tree into my room, carefully unwrap them to see what they were, and then wrap them back up and put them back underneath the tree. What a spoiler, hey? I'm better now.

#16. I love making lists. I make lists for grocery shopping, cleaning, household chores, vacations, etc. Sometimes I write down things I've already done that day and then cross it off, just to give myself a little pat on the back for what I've already accomplished that day.

#17. My least favorite task is making Jared's lunch. On my way to bed every weeknight, I remember I still need to make him a lunch and I groan just thinking about it. On the other hand, on weekends I realize I don't have to make him one and I'm so excited, I actually fist-pump the air.

#18. I don't drink pop very often, but whenever I do have some, I always have one huge hiccup right after the first swig.

#19. I don't take criticism very well. It makes me very self conscious afterward. And then I cry :)

#20. If I won the lottery, one of the first things I would do is get a tummy tuck. Then I could feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit at my multi-million dollar beach house.

#21. I can only listen to the first 30 seconds of a song, before I get sick of it and change it to the next one. Maybe that's why I don't like listening to the radio. It really ticks Jared off when we're traveling. Jared could listen to the same favorite song over and over and over. And he does.

#22. I over-explain everything. And it's becoming very apparent by how long this dang list is getting.

#23. I love having a clean house (especially after coming home from a vacation), but don't actually like the cleaning part. Who does, right?

#24. I never, ever imagined how much I would love my husband and children. I'm sure every wife/mother feels the same way, but I don't think before I got married I was even able to comprehend how much I would love them.

#25. I am a night owl. My best work is done after 9pm, when I get "the bug" and start baking, cleaning, crafting, etc. It's annoying because I stay up way too late and I am NOT a morning person at all. My 2007 New Years goal was to smile at my kids every morning when they woke me up, no matter how early, even if I had to fake it. And guess what? Faking it totally works. I am a way better morning person now.

There, now I am supposed to tag a bunch of other people, but how about whoever wants to can do this.

And if no one does; I will probably make a list, play barbies, pretend I have Cystic Fibrosis, and then cry. So... have fun!!!!!!!11111111111111111111111111111

I totally did #15 as a kid, To this day my mom double wraps my christmas presents!! I was terrible, but also very good at guessing what presents were. And #22, Jason hates it when he asks me something that he thinks should have a not-so long answer. And #25, I just get motivated with no kids awake, but come morning I am such a grouch!! Great List!!

I absolutley LOVE your 25 points Julie, maybe one of my favourites that I've read latley! Your so funny, I love the morbib yet hilarous games you played as a kid! And I told Jordan how you memorize sports trivia and just say them to Jared to freak him out and he thought that was hilarous! I wish I thought of that!
I can relate with you on lots of yours too, and I too love a clean house when you come home from vacations, I'll bust my butt or make time even when I'm busy to get my house clean before we go away, just to enjoy it when I'm home.
Anyways, I loved it!

I like these lists. They give you an insider look. Anyway if your worst job is making Jared's lunch--tell him to make it. I also don't like surprises. Too much of a planner I think.
